You will discover
➤ The Hohneck is located at the subalpine level. This level, which follows the mountain level, is easily remarkable for its steep rocky slopes, an absence of vegetation due to strong winds and low temperatures, where fir and beech forests no longer grow and give way to alpine plant species and stubble, vast grassy expanses, equivalent to mountain pastures in the Alps, although the Vosges subalpine level is unique in its kind.
➤ The Frankenthal reserve is undoubtedly the natural area that contains the most diverse flora in the Vosges massif. The corridors of the glacial cirques are home to late snowfields that constitute locations where subalpine species such as the smooth woodrush lawns flourish.
➤ The Wormspel cirque is accessible via the snowfield trail, its alpine appearance comes from the ice age which had dug a lake that was gradually colonized by vegetation and a peat bog. Today, these natural elements were destroyed in favor of the creation of the Schiessrothried lake with a dam and bordered by many hiking trails.
➤ The Wormsa Valley is a glacial valley and a listed natural site nestled in the sumptuous Great Valley of Munster punctuated by forests, rivers and waterfalls vestiges of the quaternary ice age. It takes its name from the Wormsa, a tributary stream of the Fecht. Its many cirques, rocky ridges and moraines will immediately make you think of an alpine setting!
