New Year's Day hike at Markstein
We will set off from Markstein station and head for the ridges, where we will enjoy panoramic views of the Thur and Florival valleys.
We will go as far as Trehkopf, enjoy some Crémant d'Alsace at the viewpoint, and return through a magnificent forest of fir and spruce trees.
You will discover
➤ The chaumes, alpine pastures in the Vosges mountains that have been used since the Middle Ages to graze Vosges cattle during the summer months to produce the famous Munster cheese.
➤ The flora and fauna of the mountains and ridges, swept by the wind and subjected to extreme weather conditions, leading to the establishment of subalpine plants.
